Ladies and gentleman, let me introduce you to my very first set of homemade curtains! I made them over the past week or so with the help of my very crafty mama, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! (The iPhone photo, on the other hand, is not so thrilling, but I just couldn’t wait to share these with you any longer!)
The curtains are up in my sunroom, which is a bright little nook in the back corner of Scott’s and my home. The room is all windows and doors, which makes for beautiful lighting but gives me the willies when it comes to hanging out in there (I feel like the whole world can see in)! For the past two years, the privacy issue has kept Scott and I from doing much with the space—it’s basically been an empty room save for a recycling container or two—so when I was figuring out projects to tackle during my recent time off, I put this at the top of my list. I’m so glad I did! The project was so much easier and faster than I imagined (everything’s easier with mom), and the curtains not only add privacy, but they actually make the room look bigger! They’re also lined, so they add an extra layer of insulation which is really nice during all of the cold weather we’ve had in the area. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier…except maybe if I had some furniture in there too.
If I can make curtains, anyone can! It can easily be done in a weekend (it took me a bit longer because I didn’t initially have curtain rods to use as a basis for my final measurements) and it feels really gratifying in the end. Here’s a great set of instructions for anyone considering the DIY method.
Now, excuse me, while I go enjoy a glass of wine and stare at these puppies some more. xo
